About Me

My name is Carol Lundergan and I am a Birth Doula with a degree in Music Therapy.  I have a special interest in working with and supporting teen mothers throughout their pregnancies and births.  I believe in the sacredness of each child and work with mom and her partner to bring a sense of wonder and awe to the birth process.

I have three wonderful children and I was overjoyed at each of their births.  However, my experiences with childbirth, especially in a hospital setting, taught me that most health care professionals and many partners aren't able to provide a woman with the constant, uninterrupted care and support she needs to feel empowered and in control of her labor and delivery.  In each of my births I deferred to my doctors and nurses and many times did not understand what the procedures and interventions they were suggesting meant.  I was frequently left alone with my partner, who had his own concerns and fears about the labor.  I became convinced that there had to be a better way - the Doula way.

As your Doula I will meet with you several times in your third trimester to help you understand all the possible interventions that can take place and to help you formulate your birth and newborn care preferences.  I will be available 24 hours a day from our first meeting until labor begins to answer any questions you have.  I will meet you in early labor, either at your home or at the facility, and stay with you throughout your entire labor, delivery, and for an hour after the baby is born.  Finally, I will stay in contact with you for several weeks after the birth to address any concerns you have about your new role as mother and to refer you to a Post-partum Doula if you desire one.
"If we hope to create a nonviolent world where respect and kindness replace fear and hatred, we must begin with how we treat each other at the beginning of life ... for that is where our deepest patterns are set.

From these roots grow fear and alienation ... or love and trust."
